A New Season, A New Studio, and I'm on TV?!
From wedding-day shot lists to building out my dream studio, here's what's next and why this space is your official invite to the behind-the-scenes glow up.
Hello Sunshines!
It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? After months of planning, creating, and evolving, I’m excited to resurface with a whole new game plan and…a whole new last name—yes, I just got married!
From navigating my wedding day to embarking on the journey of building a physical home for The Nicki Sun Show, there’s a lot that’s been happening behind-the-scenes. This isn’t just a fresh chapter, but the beginning of something bigger, and I want you to be right there with me as I build, create, and explore the intersections of tech, culture, and everything in between.
So here’s a little update since I’ve been gone.
The Filmmaker Bride
Weddings are a huge moment in anyone’s life, but when you’re also the creative behind the lens, it takes on a whole new level of meaning. As some of you may know, the venue photographer during our proposal had completely ghosted us and we never received any photos or videos from that magical moment. Fortunately, I was able to at least film my proposal from my POV, and that was more meaningful and authentic to me.
You best believe I wasn’t going to take any chances at our wedding though! I was blessed to hire a team of 10 trusted professionals and friends (friend-ors, as we like to call them) and start the planning at least 6 months out. Since I wasn’t the one behind the camera this time, I made sure to map out all the details and timeline in a 32-page shot list 😅 Let me know in the comments if you’d like to know what I included for my team of photographers, videographers, and content creator.
I wanted to also ensure that there was coverage for all the brand partnerships I had agreed on prior to our wedding. A MASSIVE shoutout to East Meets Dress, GUESTPIX, Kim Los Angeles, Kingston Technology, Pashion Footwear, and Nomatic for helping us offset some of the costs for our wedding. We definitely couldn’t have had our dream wedding without them!
Please enjoy our Wedding Day teaser, filmed and edited by the incredible Steven Dorn Films. Cover Photo by the incredible Luis Luque of Luque Photography.
Also, a massive shoutout to (my lil sis) Katherine Ho—whom I had the divine pleasure of interviewing right after Crazy Rich Asians—for gifting us three surreal moments in singing me down the aisle, during our First Dance, and Last Dance.
Here is the unofficial, official music video set to her live track of “Yellow” at our wedding:
A New Studio for The Nicki Sun Show?!
I can’t believe I’m sharing this, but I’m diving headfirst into searching and building a physical space for The Nicki Sun Show! For years, I’ve been bouncing between locations to film, set up, and welcomed into my guests’ creative studios.
It was ambitious and heartwarming to be entrusted into someone’s personal space. But it was also highly laborious lugging around all this equipment. As a one-woman band, I didn’t always have the privilege of having an extra hand during every interview due to scheduling or costs in hiring a crew. I’d be sweating during my multi-cam, lighting, and audio setup, with little time to collect myself before engaging in a one-hour interview—only to go straight into striking my set, packing my car, and heading back home in Los Angeles to Orange County traffic. I knew this method was not sustainable if I had to worry about setting up all the gear on top of preparing for the interview.
So the thought of having a dedicated studio space, with everything setup in place, sounds ideal to me. Cutting down setup time and doubling my output while reallocating resources to post-production is optimal and efficient. I’ve also been interested in providing mentorship opportunities and first-hand experience, particularly to women and creators of color—the intended communities I aim to amplify both in front and behind the camera.
I usually don’t share these dream goals until things have been signed, sealed, and delivered. However, I truly meant it when I said I wanted to share this journey with you every step of the way. And right now, we are in motion—scouting locations and creating a Pitch Deck for another exciting season.
Here’s a refresher of what we accomplished in year one of the show:
Wait, I’m on TV?
Yes, you heard right! I just discovered that a TV series I filmed for back in 2023 actually saw the light of day, and I’m in 5 EPISODES?!
“Discontinued” takes a comically nostalgic look at pop culture phenomena that has been…discontinued, and I was invited to provide the tech takes as MYSELF.
To have my first TV series IMDB credit is one thing, but to receive it while appearing as myself (and not a fictional character) is a whole other feeling. I actually discovered that I had “made the cut” only recently when another film project I am on let us know our IMDB credits were up.
What a cool moment to be able to point viewers in the direction of actually seeing me on their television screens!
While initially only exclusively available to watch on Fubo, you can now also watch Discontinued on Prime Video (included with Prime), The Roku Channel (Free with Ads), and Tubi (Free with Ads).
If you’re interested (or bored), you can catch me on Episodes 1, 4, 5, 8, & 9 chatting about Blackberry, Betamax, Google Glass, HitClips, and AIM.
P.S. What was your AIM name?
Thank You, Sunshines!
So here’s to new seasons, new beginnings, and glowing up together. I’m seriously so grateful for each of you who has been along for the ride since the beginning (I know there’s been many pivots!), and for those of you just hoping on. Every watch, share, comment, follow, and review means so much to me, especially in a space that’s constantly changing, and one that I’ve been making up along the way.
Every SUNday (get it?), I’ll be sharing more about my creative process, the work I’m doing, and the personal moments that shape who I am as a creator. You’re part of this journey, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us. Let’s glow up together!

In the meantime, I’m sharing more casual, daily, and intimate behind-the-scenes content in my newly launched Broadcast Channel on Instagram and Substack subscriber chat with my REAL ones (for those who don’t have Instagram). Please ask questions and take the poll on what you’d like to see.
xoxo,
Nicki
I’m looking into creating this new platform. Maybe we can work together in the future. 😀
Congratulations on all of your accomplishments! You are an example of what patience and hard work will get you.
